Abstract: REYES, ELAINE JOY B. and ACUNA, MARIELLE P. Status, Prospects, and Problems of Food Can Franchising Businesses. Undergraduate Thesis. The study was conducted to determine the status, prospects, and problems of food cart franchising businesses in selected areas of Cavite. Specifically, the study aimed to determine the demographic profile of food cart franchise owners; the status of the selected food cart franchise business in terms of the size of the business, financial aspects, and management aspects; the prospects of the food cart franchising businesses based on internal environment and external environment; to determine the prospects of the food cart franchising businesses based on internal environment and external environment; lastly to determine the problems encountered of food cart franchising businesses in internal and external environment. The study was conducted in selected areas of Cavite, particularly in Dasmaririas City, Bacoor City, Tagaytay City, Indang and Trece Martires City, Alfonso, Rosario, Imus City, Mendez, Silang, and General Trias. Data were obtained from the one hundred fifteen food cart franchise owners and 345 franchise customers interviewed. Descriptive statistical tools such as frequency count, range, percentage, and weighted means were used to present and analyze the data. Liken Scale was also used in determining the levels of common problems of the owners and the customers' satisfaction. In the analysis of profitability, return on investment (ROI), return on sales, and gross profit ratio were employed. The computed return on investment was 21 percent, return on sales was 22 percent, and had gross profit ratio of 51 percent. Prospects of food cart franchise businesses were determined through analyzing the status of franchise businesses and the external environment. The Philippines' vibrant economic performance and the high consumer confidence stimulated the growth of consumer food service. The proliferation of more shopping centers and chained modern grocery retailing channels is helping in the expansion of the food cart franchise industry's network of outlets. Problems of food cart franchises were also determined based on the internal and external factors affecting the business. Increasing number of competitors was the major problem in external factors. Problems with internal factors — high cost of franchising fee, long period of return of investment, profitability, suitability of area to the target market, spoilage of excess products, and alternative ways of promoting product were at low level.
