Abstract: AMBON, YRISH FHEL J. and MAGAT, PRINCESS JOYCE P., Profile of Cavite State University Students with Migrant Parents. Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Science in Business Management, major in Business Economics. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite, October 2015. Adviser: Dr. Nelia C. Cresino. A study was conducted to determine the profile of Cavite State University students with migrant parents. Specifically, it aimed to determine the socio-economic characteristics of the students with migrant parents; socio-economic characteristics of students; gender role differentiation of student-respondents in terms of reproductive and community activities; time allocation of students-respondent in different activities; and problems encountered by the students relative to education and financial management. The participants of the study were the second year to fifth year students of Cavite State University with migrant parents and who were enrolled during the first semester, AY 2015-2016. Data were obtained from 260 students with migrant parents through questionnaire. Descriptive statistics such as frequency count, range, mean, and percentage were used to describe the socio-economic characteristics of students, socio-economic characteristics of households, gender role differentiation of student-respondents in terms of reproductive and community activities; and time allocation of student-respondents in different activities. Ranking was used to present the problems encountered by the participants relative to education and financial management. Majority of the students with migrant parents were female, with an average age of 18 years and in second year level. The student-respondents had an average household size of 5. Majority of the parents of students were married and the mothers were high school graduates while the fathers reached college level of education. In general, the average monthly remittances of parents working abroad amounted to P24,028 and the beneficiaries of the remittances were their immediate family members. The female participants had the major responsibilities in all the reproductive activities like child care, preparing foods, washing clothes and shopping/going to public market while the male participants dominated in house repair and water collection. The problems encountered by students with migrant parents relative to education and financial management were coming late to class, lack of motivation to study, inadequate amount of remittances for family needs and increasing tuition fee/school expenses.
