This study, entitled Four- day Work Week Schedule, Study Habits and Academic Performances of Third Year and Fourth Year Students of Cavite State University Science High School A.Y. 2009-2010, was conducted to determine the factors influencing the study habits and academic performance of third year and fourth year high school students of Cavite State University Science High School before and during the four-day work week schedule; to determine the academic performance of the third year and fourth year high school students before and during the four- day work week schedule; to determine the study habits of the high school students in terms of the greatest influencing factor, time management, according to: time devoted to studying, time devoted to library works, and time devoted to internet surfing; and to determine if the four-day work week schedule had a significant effect on the study habits and academic performance of students.
This study made use of descriptive method. Total enumeration was used to determine the samples to be used in the study. A prepared questionnaire was also used. In analyzing the gathered data, frequency count, mean, percentage and T-test were employed. The factors influencing the students' study habits were: time management, motivation, peer relations, stress, obvious distractions, teaching styles of educators, school activities, cram tendency, and leisure of students. Time management is the most influencing factor, while the factors influencing the students' academic performance were: time management, motivation, peer relations, stress, teaching styles of educators, school activities, learning strategy, cram tendency, and leisure of students, wherein time management is the most influencing. Obvious change in GPA of the students was noticed, from 88.69 to 87.68. In determining the study habits in terms of time management of the students before and during the four-day work week schedule, there were also obvious changes, like their time devoted to studying and time devoted to internet surfing. It decreased during the four-day work week schedule.
Though all of the variables were somewhat correlated with each other, the four-day work week schedule only had a significant effect on two variables. The four-day work week schedule had a high significant effect on the academic performance of the students and on their time devoted to studying. It had a significant effect on their time devoted to internet surfing while it had no significant effect on the students' time devoted to library works.
