Abstract: DE LEON, DENIEL KERWILL. Utilization of Credit from Microfinance Institutions and its Contribution to Family's Economic Well-being in Selected Areas of Cavite. Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Science in Business Management major in Financial Management. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. April 2014. Adviser: Prof. Ludivinia F. Victorino. The study was conducted to determine the utilization of credit from microfinance institutions and its contribution to family economic well-being in selected areas of Cavite. Specifically, this study aimed to describe and determine socio-demographic characteristics of family members having credit in microfinance institutions; characteristics of the families; types of credit taken by the family members; utilization of microcredit; and credit's level of contribution from microfinance institution to families' economic wellbeing. The study was conducted in five selected areas of Cavite namely Indang, Trece Martires City, General Trias, Dasmariiias City, and Imus City from November 2013 to January 2014. A total of 100 family members who borrowed from microfinance institutions were interviewed with the use of prepared questionnaire. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistical tools such as mean, frequency count, range, and percentage. Likert scale was used in determining credit's level of contribution to family's economic well-being. The result of the study shows that most of the family members borrowing loans from microfinance institutions in Cavite were female with an average age of 43 years, married, and employed with an average monthly income of P20,251. It was revealed that microfinance loans borrowed by the participants were not properly utilized. Twenty-nine percent did not put the money in business which was the real purpose of loaning from MFIs. Instead, the loans were utilized in other purposes such as food, purchasing of clothing, footwear, household appliances, payment of utilities, education of the family members, medical and health needs, and other loans. In general, there was an average level of contribution of microfinance loans to family's economic well-being. The family had not utilized the loans entirely in business, resulting to an average contribution.
