Abstract: LOYOLA, MELDIE ARLANE L. and MORABE, ,IJUSTINE MAE B. Gender-based Analysis of Financial Performance of Grains Retailers in Selected Areas in Cavite. Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Science in Business Management major in Financial Management. Cavite State University. Indang, Cavite. April 2015. Adviser: Prof Dolores L. Aguilar. The study was conducted to determine the significant difference of female-owned and male-owned grains retailing businesses in selected areas in Cavite. Specifically, it aimed to determine the following: (1) demographic profile of the grains retailers in selected areas in Cavite; (2) business attributes of the grains retailing businesses in selected areas in Cavite; (3) entrepreneurial trait of the grains retailers in terms of their risk taking behavior; (4) management style of the grains retailers; (5) financial decisions of the grains retailers; (6) financial performance of the grains retailing businesses; (7) problems encountered by the grains retailers; (8) significant difference between the demographic profile, business attributes, entrepreneurial trait, management styles, financial performance, and the problems encountered by the female and male grains retailers; (9) significant relationship between the financial performance of the female-owned and male-owned grains retailing businesses with their owner's demographic profile, business attributes, entrepreneurial trait, and management styles. Descriptive and correlational designs were used as the research designs and purposive-quota sampling was used as the sampling technique for the study. The participants were 200 grains retailers in selected 10 municipalities/ cities in Cavite. Mean, standard deviation, frequency count, percentage, and ranking were used to analyze the data gathered, Mann Whitney U-test and Pearson Chi Square were utilized to determine the significant differences while Pearson Correlation Coefficient, Chi Square, and Spearman Rank Correlation were used to determine the significant relationships in the study. Based on the results, most of the grains retailers were typical Filipino business owners, either female or male, middle-aged, married, has children and has prior work experience. Most have completed their secondary and tertiary level, proving the emphasis and value given to education by Filipinos. In terms of their business attributes, 96 percent were solely owned and were personally set-up or created by the sole proprietors. The study also showed not much significant difference between the individual characteristics and business attributes of female and male grains retailers. It was found out that they differ in terms of their educational background, number of employees, participative and directive management styles and between the problem of having no sufficient time for their family because of the involvement in the business. No sufficient time for family appeared to be more significant with women. The study revealed that for males, their civil status and participative management style has a positive relationship with their net income while for females, their risk taking behavior and delegative management style has a direct relationship with their net income as well. Further, for both female and male grains retailers, the years of operation and the number of employees of their business appeared to influence their net income positively. This implies that the older and the more employees a grains retailing business has, the better their financial performance.
