Abstract: MORATA, JOMAR T. and PEREY, PRANCESCA MA. ROGELIA M. Development of an Automated Solar Powered Water Pump System. Undergraduate Design Project. Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. April 2015. Adviser: Engr. Efren R. Rocillo. The study was conducted from September 2014 to February 2015 at Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite to develop an automated solar powered water pump system which can be helpful for the irrigation of the university. Specifically, the study aimed to: l. determines the size and specifications of water pump used; 2. design and construct the automatic water pump controller; 3. determine the size and specification of the power source of the system; 4. assemble the whole system; 5. test and evaluate the system; and 6. conduct cost computation. The component of the system includes a 1000-liter IBC tote, one water pump, one 100-watt solar PV panel, solar charge controller, one 12 V 100Ah lead-acid deep cycle battery, pure sine wave power inverter, connecting wire, pipes and fittings. The specifications of the materials used were based on the formula calculated. The size of the solar Photovoltaic (PV) panel was based on the energy required of the system The battery capacity was based on the load of the system. The battery was evaluated by computing the charging and discharging of the battery. The battery was observed if the charging and discharging time of the battery matched with the computed charging and discharging time. Test and evaluation of the automated solar powered water pump system were done in three trials. It includes the discharging of the battery with no solar PV panel connected charging of the battery with no load connected and charging and discharging at once. The voltage, current, and time were measured and observed in the conduct of the study. The total cost of the study was P38, 929.
