Abstract: ANACAY, MARIANNE B. and MENDOZA, JELAINE P. Information Dissemination on Selected Herbal Medicine through Mobile Application. Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Science in Information Technology. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. April 2015. Adviser: Ms. Charlotte B. Carandang. The study was conducted to develop a mobile application used to disseminate information on selected herbal medicines. The software was developed to provide information on herbal medicines, various diseases which can be treated by these kings of plant, and the proper preparation and application of these remedies to meet Its effectiveness in curing diseases. The researchers used Extreme Programming methodology to meet the intention of the system. Four basic phases were employed in the conduct of the study, namely: planning and managing, designing, coding, and testing. The system managed four modules. These were the Application Information, Disease Dictionary, Herbal Remedies, and Medicine Preparation and Application module. Through the help of the system, people would be aware of various herbal medicines, particularly those who find it difficult to avail prescribed medicines hence, would only rely on that alternative medicines. The system was also used to inform its users how these herbs can substitute for expensive medicines. The system was developed through the use of different development tools including the following: Eclipse for the development of codes, Java for the programming language, Android Developers Tool (ADT) as the Application Programming Interface (API), Emulator as the virtual mobile device during the development of the application, SQLite for the database and Adobe Photoshop for the design of the mobile application, Microsoft Word 2010 and 2013 for documentation, and Microsoft Visio 2007 for creating diagrams. The system was evaluated by the extension research coordinator, faculty members of Department of Biological Science, Department of Information Technology, Department of Languages and Mass Communications, respondents from the community of Dasmarinas City, Cavite and Bolbok Tuy, Batangas and selected students of Cavite State University. Based on the following criteria: functionality, reliability, usability, efficiency, maintainability, and portability the results were Excellent meaning the system passed all the given criteria in the evaluation and met all features, functionality, and requirements and attained its objectives. Considering the criteria used, the system was generally found to be excellent hence, it provides the proper functions needed. The data gathered and used is reliable. It is useful for learning more about herbal medicines and applications. The application is efficient and can be used anytime and anywhere.
