Abstract: OLARVE, DIANE D. EFFECT OF INITIAL BACKFAT THICKNESS AND PARITY ON TWO CONSECUTIVE BREEEDING PERFORMANCES AMONG SOW OF DIFFERENT GENOTYPES. Undergraduate Thesis: Bachelor of Science in Agriculture major in Animal Science. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. April 2016. Adviser: Mrs. Mariedel L. Autriz. This study was conducted to: determine the effects of parity, genotype, and initial backfat thickness of sows on two consecutive breeding performances. Specifically, it aimed to determine the effect of initial backfat thickness and parity on (l) conception rate (2) gestation length (3) farrowing rate, and (4) weaning to estrus interval of the sow for two consecutive breeding performances. The data were gathered from JDC Farm Ill, Barangay Aquado, Trece Martirez City.A total of 1203 sows and gilts were used in this study. Genotypic group composted by Landrace (161), Large White (68) and Fl crossbreds (978) (LW x LR and LR x LW). Under 30 days conception rate, Large White and Landrace sows got the highest conception rate on cycle 1. however only Large White sows maintained their advantage throughout cycle 2. Meanwhile Large White sows dominated during 60 days and 90 days conception rate as compared to Landrace and Fisows for both cycles. In the 30 days conception rate parity 4, 7, and 9 got the highest conception rateson cycle l.However, parity 9 dominated on cycle 2. For 60 days and 90 days conception rate, parity 4 dominated on cycle I while parity 9 dominated on cycle 2. Backfat range I (4-6 mm) got the highest conception rate on 30 days, 60 days, and 90 days on both cycle I and cycle 2. VI Large White sows had the highest farrowing rate on cycle I and cycle 2. In addition parity 4 got the highest farrowing rate on cycle l, while parity 9 got the highest farrowing rate on cycle 2. Furthermore, backfat range I (4-6 mm) dominated on cycle I and cycle 2. Landrace sows showed the longest gestation length compared with Large White and Fl sows for cycle I and cycle 2. In addition, sows in parity 3, 6 and 9 got longer gestation length for cycle l, while parity 6 dominated on cycle 2. Sows on backfat class 4 (13-15 mm) got the longest gestation length for cycle l, while sows in backfat class 6 ( 19-21 mm) dominated on cycle 2. Landrace got the longer weaning to estrus intervals over Large White and Fl sows. Sows in parity 4 got the longest weaning to estrus intervals, while sows in backfat class 2 (7-9 mm) got the longest weaning to estrus intervals. In general genotypic group/ breed only had the effect on two consecutive conception rates. However, initial backfat thickness and parity had no effect on two breeding performances of sow. There was no effect of initial backfat thickness and parity for the conception rate, farrowing rate, gestation length for two breeding performances of sows and also on weaning to estrus intervals.
