Abstract: CLEMENT OVA AND ANGELYN G. SENTORIAS. Diplomatic Initiatives between the Republic of the Philippines and Greece. Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Science in International Studies major in European Studies. Cavite State University. Indang, Cavite. December 2016. Advisor: Dr. ANTONIO G. PAPA. The study was conducted to: (1) determine the status of the agreements between the Republic of Philippines and Greece in terms of trade, employment and tourism; (2) describe the major programs and projects implemented between the Republic of the Philippines and Greece as a result of the diplomatic initiatives; (3) identify the economic contributions to the Republic of the Philippines of various diplomatic initiatives with Greece; (4) determine the number of Filipino employed in Greece and the number of Greek employed in the Philippines; and (5) determine the trend in number of Filipino tourists in Greece and number of Greek tourists in the Philippines. Data gathered were analyzed by comparing the information on the diplomatic initiatives between the Republic of the Philippines and Greece in terms of agreements, trade relation, employment and tourism. Secondary data were gathered from several Philippine government departments and additional data were gathered through the internet. The study found out that several agreements were signed between the Republic of the Philippines and Greece regarding to Trade, Economic, Employment and Tourism. There are few major programs and projects implemented between the two parties as a result of diplomatic initiative. The exports revenue of the Philippines to Greece declined every year since 2010. Greece is One of the top 20 remitting countries to the Philippines. Greece plays an important part in recruiting OFWs that work either in land or sea as seafarers. Bilateral agreements signed between the Republic of the Philippines and Greece, allowed both parties to maintain their diplomatic relation and to develop a mutual cooperation and understanding. The trade between the two countries fluctuates most probably due to political and economic situation. However, decline in economic contribution of Greece to the Philippines may be attributed to the current debt crisis of the Hellenic Republic. The trend in deployed OFWs in Greece was probably due to high monthly wage in the country compared to the Philippines. Filipinos were hired because of their education and training, efficiency, and loyalty. Tourism is an important sector in both countries. Both countries attract millions of tourists each year due to their rich history, culture and biodiversity.
