The farm practice was conducted in Pulo ni Sara, Maragondon, Cavite from July to November 1988. It aimed to help the farmer in maximizing profit through the introduction of new methods and techniques in intercropping corn with mungo and to assist the farmer cooperator in the operation and proper management of the project. An area of 2,500 square meter was used for the project. The variety of corn used was Corn Glu-tenous, while the variety EU-Glabrous was used for mungo.
The land was prepared by plowing and harrowing twice at an interval of one week. Corn and mungo was simultaneously planted. Mungo was planted in between hills of corn. Split application of fertilizer was done. A week after fertilization plants was alternately sprayed with Furadan at weekly interval to control harmful insects. Twenty five days after planting, side dressing application of fertilizer was followed by billing-up to cover the fertilizer. Harvesting of corn was done 75 days after planting. Corn was sold as green corn. Mungo was harvested 67 days after planting. Around 2,300 ears of corn were harvested and were marketed at 00.50 per ear. On the other hand, 25 gantas of mungo were harvested and sold at 045.00 per ganta.
