GIRON, BENNY JAMES P., SALVACION, Ma. GOLDANICE R. VIDALLON, KARLA GRACE G. Production of Sealant and Pressure Sensitive Adhesive from Antipolo (Artocarpus blancoi) Latex. Applied Research II] (General Science Curriculum) Science High School, College of Education, Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. Adviser: Mr. Beng P. Umali
This study was conducted to determine the possibility of using Antipolo (Artocarpus blancoi) latex to produce sealant and pressure sensitive adhesives and compare its effectiveness with commercial products.
The treatments used for the pressure sensitive adhesive were: T1- 25.30g-urea formaldehyde, 25g antipolo latex, 2g catalysts (1:1:1); T2- 12.5g-urea formaldehyde, 37.5g antipolo latex, 2g catalysts (1:3:1); and, T3- 37.5g-urea formaldehyde, 12.5g antipolo latex, 2g catalysts (3:1:1). The treatments used for the sealant were: TO- (control) commercially available sealant (vulca seal); T1-5g antipolo latex, 4g clay, 0.5g linseed oil; T2- 5 antipolo latex, 5g clay, 0.5g linseed oil; T3- Sg antipolo latex, 4g clay, 1g linseed oil; T4- 5g antipolo latex, 5g clay, 1g linseed oil; and, T5- 5g antipolo latex, 6g clay, 1g linseed oil.
For pressure sensitive adhesive, the test results revealed that T; is the best adhesive. It got the lowest mean average of delamination. It was proven that the latex of antipolo can be used in producing pressure sensitive adhesive.
Results of the weathering test revealed that the sealant produced from antipolo latex may not withstand exposure to the natural elements.
The rubber prepared in this experiment using antipolo latex was not proven to be an effective adhesive. Further studies on its utilization is recommended.
