Ernacio, Lourdes M. , Don Severino Agricultural College, April 1986. Storage of Latundan Bananas with Moist Sawdust Using Different Containers. Major
Professor: Prof. Alexander Ferre.
This study was conducted at the Laboratory Room of the Research Department from December 1985 to January,1986.
The objective of the study was to describe the storage behavior of newly harvested Latundan bananas with moist sawdust using different containers. Specifically, this study was done to determine the most advisable storage container of Latundan bananas with moist sawdust.
The study made use of the completely randomized design (CRD).There were five treatments and three replications used. Bananas were stored with moist sawdust with and without containers using clay jar, bamboo basket, and plastic basin. For comparison, fruits stored at ambient temperatures were included and served as control
Results showed that the longest storage life of Latundan bananas could be observed in fruits stored in plastic basin and bamboo basket with the mean storage life of 21067 and 2100 days respectively, while those of the control had the mean storage life of 11.67 days.
However, storage of Latundan with moist sawdust in bamboo basket was the most effective among the treatments since the peel of the fruits did not turn brittle and the fruit stem remain strong.
