Abstract: Estacio, Marvin M., Mata, Paul Bryan D., Torres, John Anthony L. Social Media Application Security. Online activities of social media application users in selected universities in Cavite. Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Science in Industrial Security Management. Cavite State University. 2022. Thesis Adviser: Ms. Silkie C. Tuguinay This study is conducted to determine and analyze the social media activities of the Tertiary or College level students in Cavite. The researchers choose to conduct this study because they saw the rise of students especially those in collegiate level who use the platform of social media not just for entertainment but also using it as a primary medium of identification and communication. As students of Industrial Security Management, the researchers identify many threats, risks, and vulnerabilities in the current state of the platform. In relation, the researchers also want to determine the level of awareness of the respondents regarding safe social media practice and their perception of threats in the social media, to determine the risks and threats and properly address this matter systematically. The research is anchored in Protection Motivation Theory that analyzes risk through stimuli of the respondents, it guesses and predicts how the person react to certain risks that can endanger their safety. This study uses descriptive research design and the data gathered is from 220 respondents from different colleges in Cavite. The researchers use Snow-ball sampling technique to choose respondents based on the criteria that they are tertiary level and studying in Cavite. This study provides information about the significant difference between the level of awareness on the risks and threats in social media and level of awareness regarding safe browsing of tertiary students in Cavite. This information will help to recalibrate the response of the respondents and the institutions like the academy on the significant threat in social media base on the results of the study. This study will also help not only the educational institutions and respondents but also the cyber community by setting up standard on safe browsing in social media.
