BACAY, MA. HILLARY GRACE S., BAYER, KAYE Q., MARINAY, JEREMY A., VERZOSA, JOHANNA KRYZZEL M. Level of Parental Influence on the Personal Finances of Business Management Students at Cavite State University-Main Campus. Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Science in Business Management, major in Financial Management. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. August 2022. Adviser: Ms. Princess M. Feliciano.
Parents were regarded as their children's first socialization agent. They play a vital role in influencing and shaping their children's financial knowledge and capability. The study was conducted from September to November 2021 at Cavite State University, Don Severino de las Alas Campus to determine the level of parental influence on the personal finances of business management students. Specifically, this study aimed to describe the socio-demographic profile of business management students, identify the level of parental influence among business management students as well as their level of personal finances and ascertain if there is a significant relationship between the level of parental influence and the level of personal finances. Descriptive and correlational research were used in the study. The participants of the study were 342 business management students enrolled at CvSU-Main Campus for the academic year 2021 to 2022. Data were collected through a survey questionnaire using Google Forms. Descriptive analysis used mean, standard deviation, frequency count, and percentage, while Spearman's Rank Correlation was used to determine the relationship between the variables. Most business management students were female whose ages ranged from 18 to 25 years old. Most of them were third year and fourth-year students, received a monthly allowance of P1,000 and above and their parent's monthly income ranged from $21,000 and below. Results revealed that business management students had experienced a high level of parental influence and were also considered to have high level of proficiency in managing their personal finances. They were likewise revealed to exhibit very good budgeting, saving, and spending practices.
The research revealed that there was a weak positive correlation between parental influence and personal finances. Thus, providing further education in personal finance engaging both students and parents is highly recommended, providing assistance among students in making realistic financial decisions.
