Abstract: AMAMATO, ROSE-ANN O., MABINI, ANJENETH L., MACAPAGAL, ISABELLA D. An Analysis of Gender-Based Bias Among Firefighters in Selected Areas of Cavite. Undergraduate thesis. Bachelor of Science in Business Management major in Human Resource Development Management. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. August 2022. Adviser: Ms. Paulene C. Costa. The study was conducted to analyze the gender-based bias among firefighters in selected areas of Cavite. Specifically, the study aimed to (1) identify the socio- demographic profile of firefighters in terms of age, sex, civil status, designation, and highest educational attainment; (2) determine the level of gender-based bias encountered by firefighters in terms of workload, salary, chances of promotion, and workplace treatment; and (3) determine the coping strategies of firefighters when facing gender-based bias in terms of positive reappraisal, support seeking, and planning. The study employed a descriptive research design, with online survey questionnaires serving as the research instrument. The participants of the study were the firefighters in districts 5, 6, and 7 of Cavite. In addition, the participants were chosen through Slovin's formula and purposive sampling technique where a total of 119 firefighters were selected. The data collected from the participants were analyzed using percentages, frequency distributions, means, and standard deviations. The study revealed that most of the firefighters were in the age bracket of 22 to 30 years old. The majority of the participants were male and most of them were married and college graduates. The firefighter crew had the highest frequency of participants, as they are in the field rescuing and fighting fires. The overall findings of the study with regards to the level of gender-based bias revealed that it is not evident for the firefighter to experience gender-based bias in terms of workload, salary, chances of promotion, and workplace treatment. On the other hand, the coping strategies of firefighters revealed that they somewhat practice coping strategies of positive reappraisal, support seeking, and planning when encountering gender-based bias. Lastly, the data gathered suggests that firefighters should practice coping strategies on a regular and consistent basis to keep the environment free of gender biases in the government of the bureau of fire protection. As a result, stereotypes among men and women in the fire service will be reduced and avoided.
