Abstract: FEROLINO, ODETTE R., "An Analysis of Family Income and Household Expenditures of PineappLe farmers in Cavite", B. S. Thesis, Agricultural Economics. Don Severino Agricultural College, Indang, Cavite, April 1986. Adviser: Professor Luzviminda A. Rodrin. This study was conducted in four selected pineapple growing areas of Cavite, namely: Amadeo, Indang, Silang and Tagaytay City. Eighty respondents, 20 from each area were interviewed. This study aimed to 1) compare the income earned from pineapple farming and income from other sources; 2) analyze the spending patterm of pineapple farmers in Cavite with reference to their distribution of income to household needs, their trend of spending and their medium of purchase; 3) know the difference between the expenses of farmers on different expenditure items; 4) determine the functional relationship between the total household expenditures and income; 5) ascertain the problems en -countered by pineapple farmers in allocating their income; and 6) enumerate possible solutions to the problems en a countered by these farmers in managing their income. Income of the respondents with a mean of Y61,400.15 was divided into: income from pineapple farming with an average of Y50,400.00; and income from other sources with an average of Y11,$37.65. Analysis revealed that there was a significant difference between the income from pine—apple farming and income from other sources. Majority of the farmers belonged to the low expen—diture group. It was found out that these respondents spent most of their income for farming, followed by food and education ranked third. It was also found out that most farmers purchased commodities on a cash basis. As to their trend of spending, it was revealed that: food was of top priority in months of January, February, April and May; Education shared the largest percentage in months of March, June and October; farm expenses topped in months of July and September; and medical care, perso—nal care and clothing ranked first in months of August, November and December, respectively. In comparing the difference between the expenses of farmers on different expenditure items, the F computed was significant at five percent. Total household expenditures and income were found out to have significant relationships. It can be concluded therefore, that there was an increasing function between income and expenditure.
