Abstract: BALEÑA, MONIQUE FLORES, CAUBANG, MELIZA SANDIGAN, FURTON, JELIMAR RETES and SALAMAT, JESSICA MAY CULILAP. Towards Economic and Environmental Sustainability in Dasmariñas City, Cavite: Examining the Relationship Between Population and Solid Waste Management. Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Science in Economics. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. July 2022 Adviser: Dr. Elizabeth E. Polinga. This study was conducted to: determine the status of the amount of solid waste produced in every household, in terms of (a) household estimated solid waste generated per day in kilograms (b) schedule of garbage collection in the area; examine the socio-economic characteristics of the participants in the households of Dasmariñas City, Cavite, that affects the amount of solid waste generated in terms of (a) sex (b) age (c) educational attainment; examine the economic sustainability by analyzing the income class, employment status, health status, food consumption and household size of every household in Dasmariñas City, Cavite; examine environmental sustainability by analyzing the human population regarding their environmental concern; calculate the suggested ratio that an individual and every household of Dasmariñas City, Cavite needs to comply for its garbage disposal per day in kilograms; determine the relationship between population and solid waste generation in selected barangays in Dasmariñas City, Cavite on the year 2020; and analyze the factors of economic and environmental sustainability that significantly affects the estimated amount of solid waste produced by each household. The study was conducted in the selected barangay of Dasmariñas City, Cavite, particularly 50 out of 75 barangays. Data were obtained from 500 household participants-using descriptive statistical tools such as frequency, range, mean, and percentage. Regression Statistics and Correlation Analysis were also utilized to present and analyze the data. The factors and indicators of economic sustainability that are significant to the study are household size with a p-value of 0.000, income p-value is 0.03069, in health status. Only question 2 is significant with an option of "sometimes” with a p-value of 0.01572. No indicators and factors of environmental sustainability are significant to the amount of solid waste generation (kg). The relationship between population and the amount of solid waste generation has a positive influence with a p-value of 0.000, which is less than a 0.05 confidence level, determined as highly significant. The suggested ratio of solid waste generation (kg) that an individual and households in Dasmariñas need to comply with their garbage disposal per day has a mean of 0.47035 kg and 2.4317 kg, respectively, which is relevant to the mean of the estimated amount of solid waste generated by each household which is 2.21 kg. While the mean amount of solid waste that every household needs to maximize per week is 7.37 kg.
