Abstract: AGASANG, CRISTINA MARIE T. Knowledge, Attitude, and Practices on Canine Leptospirosis among Dog Owners from Selected Barangays in Caloocan City. Undergraduate Thesis Manuscript. Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. July 2022. Adviser: Nelson J. Montialto, DVM. This study was conducted to determine the knowledge, attitude, and practices on canine leptospirosis in selected barangays of Caloocan City. Specifically, the study aimed to determine the knowledge of dog owners about the causative agent, mode of infection, clinical signs, distribution, prevention, and treatment of canine leptospirosis; determine the attitude of the dog owners towards canine leptospirosis; and to determine the practices towards the prevention and control of leptospirosis. A total of 150 dog owners participated in answering the survey questionnaire conducted online using Google forms. The results of the study revealed that generally, respondents have average level of knowledge in terms of the disease, its manifestation and transmission but unfortunately manifesting poor knowledge in terms the knowledge that dogs are also potential carrier of the disease-causing organism and awareness on vaccinating dogs against leptospirosis. Moreover, respondents were found to have a very positive attitude and highly acceptable practice in terms of prevention from this particular disease. These results are an indication that dog owners are in one way or another, aware on how to keep themselves from the disease and at the same time, minimize exposure and transmission. The author recommends that further studies be conducted with larger sample size and population representation and to consider other factors such as: sex, occupation, educational attainment, and sources of information. Moreover, the collection of the information will be best done face to face to ensure that the interviewee truly understands the questionnaire.
