SOCIO- DEMOGRAPHIC PROFILE AND PERCEIVED FOREIGN LANGUAGE ANXIETY OF INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS OF CAVITE STATE UNIVERSITY-MAIN CAMPUS, Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Arts in English Language Studies. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. June 2022. Adviser: Mr. Cyrel B. Rodriguez, LPT.
This study investigated the relationship between socio-demographic profile and perceived level of foreign language anxiety of 21 undergraduate international students in Cavite State University - Main Campus. Statements from the questionnaire were adapted and modified from FLCAS (Horwitz et al., 1986). Due to the on-going pandemic and the implementation of a flexible learning scheme at Cavite State University, the variables for the socio-demographic profile of the respondents will only be limited to age, sex, and number of years of stay in the Philippines. The results revealed that students have moderate level of perceived foreign language anxiety regardless of age, sex, and length of stay in the Philippines. As for age, older students obtained higher mean than younger students. In sex, female participants had a somewhat higher mean than male respondents. Lastly, students who have stayed longer in the Philippines demonstrated less language anxiety than those who had stayed for a shorter amount of time. Using the Pearson Coefficient to examine the relationship between factors, it was determined that there is no significant correlation between socio-demographic profile and perceived level of language anxiety. Keywords: age, correlational analysis, foreign language anxiety, international students, length of stay, quantitative study, sex, socio-demographic profile .
