An Analysis of Common English Spelling Errors among 4th Year BAELS Students of Cavite State University Main-Campus Indang. Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Arts in English Language Studies. Cavite State University-Don Severino De las Alas Campus Main- Indang, Cavite. June 2022. Thesis Adviser: Mr. Pacifico Alcantara. This study was conducted to investigate the level of their spelling proficiency and the spelling errors produced by 4th year BAELS students studying at Cavite State University, as well as to investigate the difficulties, in order to identify them and address them efficiently. This study also offers ideas to help students improve their spelling proficiency. Furthermore, the current study establishes error analysis as a method of revealing the origins of spelling errors and the causes for their frequent occurrence. This study used quantitative research design, descriptive and inferential statistics were utilized. Five-Point Likert scale, and Spelling test were the primary sources that has been used by the researchers. In addition, the researchers conducted an interview for chosen respondents to investigate the factors that contribute to misspellings. Random sampling technique were used in this study, and the data collection started by the distribution of personal message of request letter to the 4th year students of BA English Language Studies through their social media accounts Results showed that in general, all of the respondents (100%) fall to the advanced level of Spelling Proficiency with scored 83-123 points despite of them having low scores on the advanced level of the test. Meanwhile, the Five-point Likert scale determines the importance of spelling errors. The result shows that (90%) of the respondents strongly agreed that spelling or spelling error/s are important at school. As regard to the factors that influence the participants' misspelling of words the researchers interviewed few respondents that got the lowest score on the Spelling Proficiency Test. The researchers found out that some errors are due to the respondents' unfamiliarity with some words in certain written forms. In general, Substitution type of error is the most commonly type of error that is evident in the result of the spelling tests taken by the respondents.
