Abstract: ANTONIO, DANIELLE S. Retrospective Study on the Epidemiology of Canine Heartworm (Dirofilaria immitis) in selected Veterinary Clinics in Bacoor City, Cavite from 2018 - 2020. Undergraduate thesis. Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. June 2022. Adviser: Dr. Emmanuel D. Mago The study was conducted from November 2021 to January 2022 to evaluate and determine the prevalence of the dogs with canine heartworm infection among the population of dogs that have visited in the selected small animal clinics in Bacoor from 2018 to 2020. Specifically, it aimed to: 1. To determine the prevalence of canine heartworm brought to the small animal clinics in Bacoor City; 2. To determine the demographic profile of heartworm patients in Bacoor City Cavite, including: Age, Sex and Breed 3. To determine the possible risk factors associated with the occurrence of Canine heartworm infection; Month diagnosed, Concurrent disease/s, Number of concurrent disease/s 4. To determine the areas with high prevalence of Canine heartworm infection in Bacoor City; 5. To determine the case fatality rate, proportionate mortality, and cause-specific mortality rate of heartworm cases for the years 2018, 2019 and 2020 in Bacoor City Cavite. Forty one out of seventy barangays in Bacoor city reported to have heartworm positive cases. There was a total of 245 dogs with positive heartworm cases, and each case was categorized based on age, sex, breed, address, date of diagnosis, diagnostic method/s used, concurrent disease/s, number of concurrent disease/s and life status. From 2018 to 2020, the clinic data survey contained the following information: The total number of cases handled was 69,802, the total number of deaths from all causes of disease was 4,453, and the test kit brands had been used to detect the disease.
