Abstract: LANCETA, RACHEL A. Emotional Intelligence and Spiritual Intelligence of the Novitiate and Theologian Seminarians in Cavite. Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Science in Psychology. Cavite State University. April 2012. Thesis Adviser. Ms. Alma Fatima Reyes. The study aimed to determine the emotional intelligence and spiritual intelligence of the novitiate and theologian seminarians in Cavite. Specifically, the study aimed to: 1) determine the emotional intelligence (EI) level of the novitiate and theologian seminarians in terms of: (a) attention to feelings, (b) clarity of feelings and (c) mood repair; 2) determine the spiritual intelligence (SI) of the novitiate and theologian seminarians in terms of: (a) critical existential thinking, (b)personal meaning production, (c)transcendental awareness, (d)conscious state expansion; 3) determine if there a significant difference between emotional intelligence (EI) and spiritual intelligence (SI) of novitiate and theologian seminarians and 4) determine if there a significant relationship between emotional intelligence (EI) and spiritual intelligence (SI) of novitiate and theologian seminarians. Descriptive comparative- correlational design was used in the study. It was conducted and administered among two hundred twenty seminarians from St. PaulSeminary Foundation and SVD seminary. Trait Meta Mood Scale and Spiritual Intelligence Self- Report Inventory were used to measure the emotional intelligence and spiritual intelligence of the seminarians. Mean, frequency, percent, standard deviation, Mann- Whitney (U-test) and Spearman rank correlation were used as statistical treatment in the study. The results revealed that the seminarians have a very high emotional intelligence in terms of attention to feelings, clarity of feelings and mood repair. The seminarians knew themselves very well, showed sense of humor and perspective about themselves, able to sense the emotions and understand others people’s needs and feelings. The seminarians were affable, resilient and optimistic. The researcher found out that the seminarians have a high spiritual intelligence in terms of critical existential thinking, personal meaning production and transcendental awareness and average on conscious state expansion. The seminarians are aware especially of the deeper connection between self and other people, recognized of the non-material aspect of life that makes them feel more centered and know how to find meaning and purpose in life. Moreover the researcher found out that there is a significant difference in emotional intelligence of the seminarians. The novitiates and theologians differ in terms of attention to feelings and clarity of feeling and no significant difference in terms of mood repair. With the same level of emotional intelligence, they do not possess the same characteristics. The length of stay of the seminarians in their respective seminary, adjustment period, their exposure to people and personal issues can be a contributing factor why novitiates and theologians had difference in terms of attention to feelings and clarity of feelings. In accordance with their spiritual intelligence the researcher found out that there is no significant difference between the seminarians. Since they practicing on both religious college seminaries and teaching same discipline, this can be a contributing factors why novitiates and theologians does not have differences in terms of their spiritual intelligence. The results also revealed that there is a positive relationship between attention to feelings to spiritual intelligence of the seminarians. In general, the result revealed that there is no significant relationship between emotional intelligence and spiritual intelligence of the seminarians.
