The study was undertaken to describe the socio-economic characteristics of nursery owners; describe the production practices followed by nursery owners; determine the cost and return of nursery operations; determine the relationship between profit and some selected variables; and identify the production and marketing problems encountered by nursery farm owners. The study was conducted in the towns of Alfonso and Silang, Cavite. Thirty respondents comprised the sample. The age of the respondents ranged from 45 to 74 with a mean of 57 years. Majority of the respondents were male, married and finished a vocational course. The farming experience of the respondents ranged from one to twenty-one years with a mean of eight years. The family size ranged from five to sixteen and a mean of eight. The gross family income ranged from P14,000.00 to P1M. Farm size ranged from 50 to 1,000 square meters. The average net income obtained by nursery farms amounted to P102,263.00. The net return above cash cost amounted to P112, 953.00 and the net return above non cash cost was valued at P197,810.00 and the corresponding ratio of net income to sales was 0.49. Chi-square test showed that family size, capital and number of nursery stocks grown and farming experience were not significantly related to the level of profit. While number of plants grown was found to significantly related to the level of profit incurred by nursery operators. Problems encountered were instability of prices of supply materials, competition area, and prevalence of pests and diseases.
