This study was conducted to determine the influence of self-esteem among teenagers regarding the use of trending verbal sarcasm in selected schools in Dasmarinas, Imus and Bacoor City, Cavite. Specifically, this study aimed to identify the demographic profile of the respondents according to age, gender, place of residence, religion, type of family and affiliation of school; to determine the = perceptions and level of acceptability of the respondents pertaining to current linguistic trends, the factors that influence the respondents to use such language and the self-esteem of the respondents. Furthermore, it aimed to identify the relationship between factors influencing the respondents to use verbal sarcasm and their level of self-esteem; to identify the relationship between the perceived level of acceptability of the trending language among teenagers and their level of self-esteem; to identify the relationship between respondent’s demographic profile and perceived level of acceptability; to identify the relationship between respondent’s demographic profile and school affiliation; and to identify the relationship between respondent’s self-esteem and factors that influence the use of verbal sarcasm and find out if there is a significant relationship between respondent’s perceived level of acceptability and factors that influence the use of verbal sarcasm. This study was conducted from December 2012 to February 2013 at the three selected schools in Dasmarinas, Imus and Bacoor City, Cavite. The study utilized the descriptive-survey design and a total of 300 respondents aged 13 to 18 years old were considered in the study. Quota sampling technique was used to determine the number of respondents. Part I, II and Part III of the questionnaire were made by the researchers while Part IV was adapted and modified from Rosenburg’s Self-Esteem Scale and this was used as the main data-gathering instrument for this study. The questionnaire was divided according to the demographic profile of the respondents, their perceived level of acceptability and the factors that influence them to use verbal sarcasm, and how it — influence their self esteem, respectively. Based on the study, the following findings were noted: All respondents perceived verbal sarcasm as slightly acceptable in terms of their perception about the use of such language. The main factor that influenced teenagers to use verbal sarcasm was influenced by media followed by experience, peers, age, gender. The least factor that influenced the teenagers was their family. Majority of them show that they have a high self-esteem which indicates that they have a personal sense of self-worth and self-respect. Age, gender and place of residence had a significant relationship with their perceived level of acceptability. On the other hand, there was also a significant relationship between the perceived level of acceptability and their level of self-esteem. Gender, age, experience and media had a significant relationship with the perceived level of acceptability.
