The study entitled “Family Characteristics and Personality Development among Adolescents in Selected Towns of Cavite” aimed to (1) Describe the demographic profile of the respondents in terms of the (a) Family Characteristics (b) Family Communication Patterns (c) Total Monthly Income, (d) Family Functions (e) Family Social Relationship; (2)Identify the different types of personality (introvert or extrovert) that are developed among adolescents in selected towns of Cavite in terms of: (a) Introverted Sensing , (b) Introverted Intuitive, (c) Extraverted Sensing, (d) Extraverted Intuitive ; (3) Identify the types of personality developed by adolescents residing in (a) Indang, (b) Trece, (c)Tanza.; (4) Identify the problems encountered by the adolescents in the family; (5) Assess the coping mechanism to the problems encountered by the adolescents in the family; (6) Determine the significant relationship between (a) Family characteristics and personality developed; (b) Family characteristics and coping mechanism; (c) Personality and problems; (d) Personality and coping mechanisms;
Family characteristics are being identified according to the family type, dominant family member, and recreational activities. Communications are identified according to its characteristics, expression of emotional message, interaction between family member, and observable conflict; family socio and cultural characteristics; family function and family social relationship. For the personality assessment, it was categorized as introvert sensing, introvert intuitive, extrovert sensing and extrovert intuitive. Problems recognized as emotional problem, moral problem, communication problem, and financial problem. Coping mechanism was identified as problem focused, emotional focused and avoidance focused.
Results of the study revealed that adolescents family are mostly nuclear type, father is the dominant family member and recreational activities as founded to be every week. Whereas their family was founded to express normal emotional message with each other, their monthly income ranges from 1,000 to 4,999, and 15, 000 to 19,999 and responds to their immediate needs. It was found that adolescents from the three towns of Cavite are extrovert sensing, which they experiencing emotional problems and more focused to their problem in terms of coping mechanism
