Undergraduate thesis, Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Cavite State University, Indang Cavite. March 2011. Adviser: Mrs. Evelyn del Mundo This study “Biobehavioral Determinants and Outcomes among Teenage Mothers in Selected Towns of Cavite from November 2009 to December 2010” was conducted to investigate the benefits and cost of prevention and intervention of teen pregnancy in selected towns of Cavite. Confined in the chosen municipalties in the said province, this aimed to identify the biobehavioral determinants and outcomes of pregnancy among teenage mothers and the relationship between the demographic characteristics and biobehavioral determinants and outcomes of pregnancy of teenage mothers. Through this study, the teenage mothers may give knowledge in child bearing and adequate dissemination of knowledge about pregnancy. The study utilized the descriptive research approach. A total of 100 teenage mothers residing at selected towns of Cavite ages 13 to 19 year old were considered as the respondents of the study. They were interviewed and given questionnaires to get the necessary data. Purposive sampling technique was used to determine the number of respondents. Chi-square test and Cramer’ Coefficient were used to correlate the teenage mother’s demographic profile with biobehavioral determinants, biobehavioral changes and biobehavioral outcomes. Based on the study, there is a significant relationship between demographic characteristics of teenage mothers and biobehavioral determinants. Most teenage mothers are living with their partner without marriage that affect biobehavioral determinants such as using contraceptives, and the influence of friends and partner to parent communication before pregnancy. Educational attainment can also determine biobehavioral determinants because the lower the educational attainment the higher chance to have such vice that can affect early pregnancy. Nuclear type of family has a significant relationship with friends. Birth order has a significant relationship to biobehavioral determinants specifically in seeking friend’s advice. There is a significant relationship between the demographic characteristics, specifically the age and the psychological outcomes after pregnancy. It was linked with fear, anger, crying without valid reason, inability to focus and breast feeding behavior of the teenage mothers.
