This study was conducted to determine the (1) socio-demo-economic characteristics of Barangay Health Workers (BHWs) in selected towns of Cavite; (2) their psychological characteristics in terms of attitude towards work, peers, and supervision and their motivation to work; (3) their level of performance as perceived by themselves and their supervisors; (4) the relationship between socio-demo-economic characteristics and performance of BHWs; (5) the relationship between psychological characteristics and performance of BHWs; and (6) the problems encountered by them in performing their duties. Frequency count, range, mean and percentage were used in determining the demographic and socio-economic characteristics, motivation, attitude towards duties, peer and supervisors and problems encountered of § Barangay Health Workers. Pearson Product Moment Coefficient of Correlation was used in determining the relationship between the demographic and socio-economic characteristics level of performance, psychological characteristics in terms of attitude toward duties, peer and supervisor and motivation to work to the level of job performance of Barangay Health Workers. Age of the respondents ranged from 21 to 72 years with a mean of 49.2 years. All females, married (87%), and finished high school (41%) and reached college level (22%). The honorarium received of the respondents ranged from Php400.00 to Php5,000.00 with a mean of Php 627.00, the years in service ranged from one to 16 years with a mean of 6.6 years. In terms of psychological characteristics, 95 percent of the BHWs have favorable attitude towards peer, 92 percent have favorable attitude towards work, and 90 percent have favorable attitude towards supervisor while all of them were motivated to their work. There was a positive and small correlation in age and years in service of Barangay Health Workers to job performance negative and small correlation on monthly honorarium and educational attainment while none correlation on civil status. The null hypothesis was rejected. There was a strong and positive correlation on attitude towards work, supervisor, motivation and medium and positive on peers to job performance. The null hypothesis was also rejected. Problems encountered by the Barangay Health Workers in doing their duties were: lack of health kits and medicine and lack of facilities.
