Abstract: AGDON, AZELLE CHARESE ALMERIA. Profitability of Dragon Fruit Production in Cavite. Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Science in Business Management, major in Economics. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. Adviser: Dr. Nelia C. Cresino. This study was conducted to: describe the socio-economic characteristics of dragon fruit farmers in Cavite; describe the characteristics of the farm; determine the profit from dragon fruit production; and ascertain the relationship between net income and selected variables. Data used in the study were obtained through personal interview with 32 dragon fruit farmers in Cavite. The age of the farmers ranged from 24 to 76 years old with an average of 52 years. Most of the farmers had reached college level of education while only one had no formal schooling. There was an average household size of five members in a family. Majority of the growers dig their own land and had been in dragon fruit farming for six years. An average of two hectares was devoted to _dragon fruit production. More than half of the farmers had red and white varieties of dragon fruit while a number of them planted white variety only. An average of 935 dragon fruit trees were grown per hectare. By variety, an average of 826 and 252 white and red varieties respectively were produced by farmers. Majority of the farmers hired laborers in their farms at an average of 273 man-days per hectare. On the average, yield of dragon fruit was 4,056 kilograms per hectare. The return from dragon fruit production amounted to PhP498,017.00, while the costs amounted to PhP307,043.95 which produced a net income of PhP190,973.05. Returns above cash cost amounted to PhP262,730.58 and an income above non-cash cost was PhP426,259.47. The ratio of .38 indicated that dragon fruit production in Cavite is profitable. With the use of multiple regression analysis, a significant relationship was found between profit and total cost of fertilizers, and fungicides incurred in production and the total cost of utilized labor in man-days.
