Abstract: HAGOS, MARK RAFAEL M., HERRERA, KRYSTEL C., LATINA JEREMIAH G. “MANAGEMENT OF COMMUNITY-ACQUIRED DISEASES AMONG ADULTS IN SELECTED BARANGAYS OF INDANG, CAVITE”. Undergraduate Thesis, Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. March, 2011. Adviser: Prof. Nenita B. Panaligan. This study aimed to determine the community-acquired diseases among adults(both young and middle aged) in three selected barangays of Indang, Cavite and determine the common management practices they perform to cure the identified diseases. One hundred eighty respondents aged 20 to 60 were chosen by a purposive quota sampling method. The common acquired illnesses included were upper respiratory tract infections which are cough, colds and influenza and diarrhea. Taking a rest, increasing fluid intake, avoiding vices and clean surrounding were the primary management practices of the respondents immediately after experiencing signs and symptoms of diseases. Majority of the respondents trusted the licensed doctors rather than the quack doctors for the management of illnesses. They use commercially-prepared medications over natural herbal medicines. They perceived that herbal medicines were mostly effective on cough, colds and diarrhea while commercially-prepared medications were effective on influenza, cough and skin diseases. Civil status and housing profile were significantly related with increase of food. Age and household size were significantly related to the decision to increase in fluid intake. Consulting the physicians immediately and having their surroundings cleaned were dependent to the monthly income of the family. The perceived effectiveness of management practices by the respondents is significantly related to some of the demographic profile.
