Abstract: DIOKNO, JEANINA P., LICO, BREGETH C., MONT/LLA, DIANA P. Cross-cultural Challenges and Coping Strategies of Filipino Migrants in Taiwan. Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Science in International Studies. Cavite State University Indang, Cavite. August 2022. Adviser: Ms. Justine Marie P. Rodil. This study was conducted among selected Filipino migrants in Taiwan from May 2021 to August 2022 through online surveys using Google form to determine the cross-cultural challenges and coping strategies of Filipino migrants in Taiwan. Specifically, the study aimed to: 1) determine the demographic characteristics of the participants in terms of: sex, age, years of experience, educational attainment, and type of work; 2) identify the labor policies in Taiwan that apply to the selected Filipino migrant workers; 3) discuss the most common type of personality traits of the selected Filipino migrants in Taiwan based on the Big Five Dimensions of Personality; 4) analyze the most common cross-cultural challenges in terms of sociocultural adjustment and most commonly used coping strategies of the selected Filipino migrants in Taiwan; 5) determine if there is a significant relationship between: selected demographic characteristics, labor policies applied, personality traits, cross-cultural challenges encountered, and coping strategies used by the selected Filipino migrants in Taiwan. A total of 68 Filipino migrants who have been working or settled in Taiwan for at least one year and those OFWs in Taiwan who returned to the Philippines due to COVID-19 served as participants of the study. Frequency count and percentage, mean and standard deviation, Spearman rank, Chi square, and Point Biserial were used in analyzing the data. The results of the demographic characteristics indicated that most of the participants were female (63%) and had ages ranging from 18 to 65 years old, had 1 to 15 years of work experience in Taiwan (94%), college graduate (34%), and were working in commercial and industrial field (47%). For the labor policies applied to the participants, 42 (62%) participants answered "yes" that terms and conditions of employment apply to them, while on discrimination, maternity and family leave rights, termination of employment, and data protection and employee privacy, majority of the participants answered "no" which means that those labor policies do not apply to them. The study revealed that agreeableness was the most common personality trait of the selected Filipino migrants in Taiwan with a mean of 3.85 and with an interpretation of neutral. For the most common cross-cultural challenges encountered by the participants, environmental factor with a mean of 3.51 and had an interpretation of easy was the most common cross-cultural challenges encountered by selected Filipino migrants in Taiwan. The most commonly used coping strategies of the participants was positive reappraisal with a mean of 4.05 and an interpretation of "often". On the other hand, there was no significant relationship between the selected demographic characteristics, labor policies applied, personality traits, cross-cultural challenges encountered, and coping strategies used by the selected Filipino migrants in Taiwan.
