Abstract: LAVILLA, RICHARD C. Cavite State University, Indang , Cavite. April 2005. Animal Management Practices of Wildlife Rescue and Refuge Center in Palawan. Adviser: Rezin C. Bahia, DVM, MS. A study was conducted to describe the animal management practices at Wildlife Rescue and Refuge Center in Palawan with the use of structure interview. Results of the study showed that animal enclosures satisfied the space requirement needed by the animals even though the enclosures were constructed the using conventional materials due to cost cutting. Required facilities and arrangement needed for a center to function efficiently were present and functional except for the Physiology and Pathology room. Feeding management and methods practiced by the center followed the standard procedures of feeding, except for having a fixed feeding time which caused stereotyped behavior on the animal. Enrichment using both natural and artificial methods were acceptable. The hygiene and sanitation practices of the center studied as well as the handling and restraint method were appropriate. Preventive medicine only included deworming and isolation of newly acquired animal. A good quarantine program is employed in the presence of utilizable facilities and equipment. Improvement of quarantine program is possible by allotting more budget and hiring technicians and staff that are knowledgeable on the operation of the equipment.
