Abstract: CRUZAT, MICHAELA MARIE B. Consumption and Expenditure of Agricultural Households in Selected Areas in Cavite. Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Science in Economics. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. April 2015. Adviser: Dr. Luzviminda A. Rodrin The study was conducted to determine the consumption and expenditure of agricultural households in selected areas in Cavite; determine the socio-economic characteristics of the head of the agricultural household; determine the basic commodities usually consumed by the households; determine the prices of basic commodities usually consumed by the households; determine their average monthly consumption expenditure on basic commodities; determine the price elasticity of demand for each basic commodity of agricultural households; determine the income elasticity of demand of agricultural households; determine if there is significant relationship between the households’ income and households’ consumption expenditure; and determine the problems encountered by the agricultural households in the consumption expenditure of various expenditure items. The study used primary data which include the socio-economic characteristics of the head of the household. The data included in the household's consumption expenditure were the food commodities they usually consume, the prices and the household’s monthly expenditure on basic commodities. The results of the simple linear regression for log-linear model showed that the prices of rice, egg, sugar, cooking oil, garlic, scy sauce, vinegar, salt and black pepper were significantly related to the quantity demanded on each basic commodity. Furthermore, the results of the simple linear regression for Ordinary Least Squares method showed the income of the head of the household had a positive relationship to the households’ consumption expenditure. The variables were found to be significant at five percent level.
