A three-month field study was conducted at Asia Textile Mills, Inc. (ASIATEX) located in Brgy. San Cristobal, Calamba, Laguna. This aimed to expose the student-trainee to the different management practices and operations of the firm and at the same time apply the theoretical knowledge learned in the classroom. Specifically, it aimed to describe the management practices and operation of the firm, describe the company policies and determine the problems encountered by the firm and recommend possible solutions to the various problems identified.
Asia Textile Mills, Inc. engages in manufacturing fabrics. The company produces the following products of quality and share the trust of local market; suiting materials, ladies materials, curtain and draperies materials and materials for furniture upholstery. The company recognizes that the fundamental vitality and strength of the company lies in its people. In the realization of its corporation objectives, the company needs the undivided loyalty of the workforce. Efficiency and initiatives are expected of them. Hence, promotion of security and welfare of each of them is a basic concern of the management. The improvement of their welfare is not only a management responsibility but a moral obligation as well. The management stands on the principle that employees should be treated with the best of care properly assigned and equally treated that in the end will provide the strongest basic obtainable for sound and harmonious employer-employees relationship. Numerous problems of the firm were also identified such as shortage of manpower, lack of computer, damages of products and delayed payments.
The firm should hire additional professional workers even if it is costly to have fast and smooth operation. It should also provide every department additional computers, and also apply effective strategies to be more competitive and lastly, the buyers must be reminded of their payment.
The three-month training was spent in doing clerical works like typing of job-orders, encoding, filing of documents, printing of documents, photocopying documents, answering phone calls and receiving fax messages.
In the conduct of the study, problems that dealt with working relationship with the employees of the firm, as well as operating computers and encoding the sales were encountered.
