Bachelor of Arts in Political Science with Certificate in Information System Management. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. April 2016. Adviser: Mr. Aldrin P. Baes. The study was conducted to determine the perception of the first — time youth voters in Cavite on Philippine elections. Specifically, this study aimed to: (1) determine the socio-demographic profile of the first-time youth voters in Cavite; (2) determine the participants' sources of information about the elections; (3) assess the extent to which these sources have influenced their perceptions of elections; (4) evaluate the knowledge of prospective first-time youth voters regarding the electoral process; (5) determine the participants' attitudes towards certain aspects of the electoral process namely election campaign materials and strategies, electoral candidate's qualifications, and COMELEC; and (6) determine the extent of the participants' actual and intended electoral participation. The study was conducted in four (4) selected Universities in Cavite, namely Cavite State University - Indang Campus, Technological University of the Philippines - Cavite, Lyceum of the Philippines University Cavite, and De La Salle University - Dasmarinas. Moreover, the study was conducted from October 2015 to January 2016. Meanwhile, data collection was conducted every Fridays and Saturdays from December 2015 to January 2016. The researcher utilized the descriptive method, also known as the survey or normative approach with a total of 120 students from different universities as the respondents of the study. The survey questionnaire used was consisted of five parts which helped the researcher in determining the participants' perception regarding elections. The statistical treatments used for both the first and second objective were frequency percentage, mean, and standard deviation. The Filipino Youth respondents, as the findings of this study suggests, are greatly influenced by the most prevalent medium today which are television and social media websites like facebook - with regard to their views about the elections. Likewise, the family has a strong influence on their perceptions about this political process. The said medium could therefore be used to increase the youth's knowledge about elections and election-related activities, especially the registration and voting procedures. With regard to the current knowledge in election and electoral process of the respondents, the results of the study showed that most of the youth today are not aware of the basic knowledge they must know before practicing their rights to vote. It is disheartening to know but we cannot really blame the youth today since not all of them has a field or subject to study regarding the matter — but still, it is every man's responsibility to know at least, the basic knowledge of elections before participating to it. Furthermore, TV interviews and Miting De Avance are the most effective campaign strategy an electoral candidate can do as per the results of the study showed. In contrary, endorsement by a celebrity and incumbent politician is the least effective for the respondents. Also, it is the education and the experience of an electoral candidate that the respondents deem important in terms of choosing the one that they are going to elect. Moreover, respondents reacted neutrally, in general, regarding the statements given to rate the performance of the Commission on Elections. Lastly, the youth are actively and willing to participate regarding election -- related activities.
