Abstract: VERNA P. CODIZAL, LEWELYN B. MARTINEZ, AND LOVELY JOY M. MONTENEGRO. Factors Affecting Choices of Mothers Residing in Tuy,Batangas to Breastfeed or Bottle-feed their Babies. Research Problem. Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Cavite State University, Indang Cavite, March 2007. Adviser: Dr. Josefina R. Rint. This study was conducted in Tuy, Batangas from December 2006 to February 2007. This was done to: assess the demographic profile of mothers according to them choice of feeding, determine number of mothers who still breastfeed their babies, identify factors that affect the choice of mother in feeding their babies, identify why mothers stick to their choice of feeding their babies, and to determine the relationship of mother's demographic profile according to their choice of feeding. The study used descriptive analysis and involved data collection from the mothers in Barangay Dalima and Luntal Tuy, Batangas. Results revealed that there are many factors affecting mothers’ choice of feeding their babies: all data in the demographic profile in our questionnaire may affect there chose; occupation and income of mothers are the example. A total of 20 mothers were using breastfeeding method and 17 were using bottle- feeding whose age ranges from 18-35 years old with children below two years old. The factors that affect their choice of feeding their babies include occupation of mother. Most working mother use bottle-feeding because they lack time to do breast feeding and they were able to sustain the need to buy their baby’s milk. Most of the mothers who were bottle feeding their babies were college graduates; breastfeeding mothers just stay at home most of the time and were high schools’ graduates, so instead of bottle-feeding,they preferred to breastfeed their babies to save money and to protect both mother and child from infection.
