Abstract: PERIDO, RINA D. FACTORS IN DECISION-MAKING, FAMILY DECISION-MAKING PATTERNS AND MODES OF CHOOSING FRIENDS AMONG SELECTED STUDENTS IN CAVITE STATE UNIVERSITY, INDANG, CAVITE. Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Science in Psychology. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. March 2008. Adviser: Ms. Phoenee May Rivamonte. This study was conducted to determine the relationship between family decision-making patterns and modes of choosing friends among selected students in Cavite State University-Main Campus. Specifically, the study aimed to present the profile of the respondents in terms of year level and college; to determine the factors in decision-making in terms of experience, education, occupation, gender and position in the family; to determine the family decision-making patterns in terms of Paternal Decision-Making, Maternal Decision-Making, Joint Decision-Making, Sibling Decision-Making and Equal Decision-Making; to determine the modes of choosing friends in terms of Socioeconomic Status, Common Interest, Common Characteristics, "We Complement Each Other" and Emotional Security, and; to determine whether Factors in Decision-Making have significant influence towards Family Decision-Making Patterns. The questionnaire was administered to 200 students from different colleges in Cavite State University-Main Campus from November 2007 until January 2008. The findings of the study showed that although families today are in egalitarian form or having equal rights and opportunities, still, parents have the greater responsibility when it comes to making decision regarding family matters. Also, the result showed that parents were afraid that their children might commit the same mistakes they encountered before, so they guide their children through making decisions which are based from their own experiences. And also, respect not only to parents but also to the elder siblings in the family remains. Value for Education was also seen in a way that the family recognizes the decision of the member who attained higher educational level. Although relationship between family decision-making and modes of choosing friends were less significant, still, there are certain matters in which family decision-making pattern can provide better realizations regarding modes of choosing friends.
