Abstract: FERRERA LANNY AMBAGAN, Socio-Economic Status and Social Adjustment of Selected College Students in Cavite State University Undergraduate Thesis, Bachelor of Science in Psychology, Cavite State University Indang, Cavite. April 2008 Thesis Adviser; Mrs. Ma. Alodia C. Mercado This study was conducted to determine whether the socio-economic status has a significant relationship to the social adjustment of the college students. It aimed to; determine the socio-economic status of the respondents in terms of parents' educational attainment, occupation of parents, size of the family and monthly family income. It also aimed to determine the social adjustment of the respondents in terms of social and recreational activities, social-psychosocial relations and adjustment to college work and to know if there is significant relationship between socio-economic status and social adjustment among college students in Cavite State University. The researcher used two sets of questionnaire (1) the Socio-Economic Status Form (2) and the Social Adjustment Evaluation Scale. These instruments were administered to the college students to determine their socio-economic status and social adjustment. Findings of the study revealed that most of the respondents' fathers were high school graduates with 135 (36.1 %) while 144 (38.5 %) of the respondents' mothers had finished college. 183 (48.9 %) of the respondents' mothers were unemployed, on the other hand, 123 (32.9 %) of the respondents' fathers were self-employed. 163 (43.6 %) of the respondents belonged to a small family size that were ranged from three to five. In terms of family income, 126 (33.7 %) of the respondents are receiving Php 10,000 and below. The study also showed that the respondents had an average level of social adjustment. They managed to cope with regards to social and recreational activities, social-psychosocial relations as well as adjustment to college work. The result also presented the significance of mothers' educational attainment to the social adjustment of the college students. This means that mothers play very important role in molding their children in terms of coping with different kinds of environment and situations. Based on the findings of the study, the following recommendations were made: For the teachers, it is important for them to find the reason why some students do not participate well in class activities. They should maintain a friendly approach and encourage them to study and socialize. The school should implement programs that will promote socialization among the students especially with regards to their adjustment on the school environment. The administrators of the school should also consider holding seminars that will improve the parents' knowledge and skills that would provide the awareness level of the parents regarding their children's social adjustment.
