Abstract: PADERES, LAARNI TAMIO; PANGAN, ROBES PIERRE TILA; and RAMOS, DIANA HABAGAT., RELATIONSHIP OF DEMOGRAPHIC PROFILE OF ADOLESCENT MOTHERS TO THE NUTRITIONAL STATUS OF THEIR OFFSPRING IN SELECTED BARANGAYS OF TANZA, CAVITE . Special Problem, Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. April 2008. Adviser: Mrs. Louella M. Burgos This study "Relationship of demographic profile of Adolescent Mothers to the nutritional status of their off springs in selected barangays of Tanza, Cavite" was conducted in selected barangays of Tanza, Cavite. This aimed to (1) Document the demographic profile of the adolescent mothers who were chosen as respondents that are aged 13-19 in selected Barangays in Tanza, Cavite; (2) Determine how the respondents provide for their offspring with food in terms of frequency; (3) Determine the usual foods prepared by the respondents for their offspring; (4) Determine the age group of the respondents that can best and least provide for the nutrition of their offspring; (5) Determine the nutritional status of the offspring of adolescent mothers; (6) Determine the relationship of the demographic profile of the mothers to the nutritional status of their offspring. A total of 80 respondents residing at selected barangays of Tanza, Cavite aged 13-19 years old when they had given birth regardless of their present age still considered as the respondents for the study. They were interviewed and given questionnaire to get the necessary data needed like age, civil status, educational background and the nutritional status of their offspring. Spearman Rank correlation was used to correlate the adolescent mother's demographic profile with their offspring's nutritional status The study revealed that majority of the respondents answered that they can provide bread for their offspring for 4-6 times a week, bread is the most commonly provided food by adolescent mothers for their offspring Off springs of adolescent mothers belonging to the age group of 20-22 had the highest mean height and mean weight while those belonging to the age group 14-16 had the lowest mean height and mean weight as compared to the age of their offspring. There is a relationship between the adolescent mother's age and their offspring's nutritional status, the older the mother the better the nutritional status of their offspring. There is no relationship between the mother's civil status and educational background with the nutritional status of their offspring. Their capability to provide adequate nutrition for their offspring was not hindered by these factors. Based on the comparison of the offspring's mean height, mean weight and signs of good nutrition, majority of the offspring of adolescent mothers possess a good nutritional status.
