Abstract: MATALOG, JE ANNE R. and ROGADOR, LARA E. Development of an Automated Coco Peat Maker. Undergraduate Design Project. Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. December 2018, Adviser: Ms. Poinsettia A. Vida. The design project was conducted to develop an automated coco peat maker. The study aimed to construct a machine that can produce a good quality coco peat with acceptable electrical conductivity content for plants. The general objective of the study was to develop an automated coco peat maker which specifically aimed to design and construct a microcontroller unit for the system; design and fabricate the machine; develop a program to operate the coco peat maker; test and evaluate the system through: output quality, quantity and efficiency; and conduct a cost analysis for the system. The machine has four parts: hopper, buffering container, water and solution container and compressing unit. The materials used in the study were microcontroller unit, EC sensor, water flow sensor, photo-interrupter, photoelectric sensor, LCD, relay drivers, motorized ball valve, water pump, solid state relays, solenoid valves, push buttons, buzzer and different motors. The automated coco peat maker needs human intervention only in placing the input materials in the machine and removing the output product produced by the machine. The testing and evaluation of the machine were conducted at Engineering Science Building, Cavite State University — Indang, Cavite. In testing and evaluation of the machine, it showed that the objectives of the study were met. The machine was proven to produce good quality coco peat. However, the capacity and efficiency of the machine fell short compared to other manufacturers. The total cost of the design project was P 66,165.00.
