Abstract: ADRIAS, RAECHELLE JOCEPHINE M., BANABAN, RONAFEL D., BENEDICTO, MELANIE Q. "Assessment on the Levels of Knowledge and Abilities of Mothers in Caring for Preterm Babies". Undergraduate Thesis. College of Nursing. Cavite State University. Indang, Cavite. March 2009. Adviser: Mrs Nenita Panaligan, RN, MAN The study entitled Assessment on the Levels of Knowledge and Abilities of Mothers in Caring for Preterm Babies aimed to assess the knowledge and abilities of mothers in caring preterm babies. This study aimed to determine the significant relationship between the level of knowledge and level of ability of mothers in caring for preterm infants as to the profiles of the respondents. Results revealed that majority of the respondents were 26 to 30 years old, have 1 to 2 children, have a monthly income ofP5, 000 and below, unemployed, and high school graduates. Evidence suggests that the respondents had a high level of knowledge of rearing pre-term infants. Results also revealed that the respondents had a high level of ability in rearing and caring for pre-term infants. The results also showed that respondents from different age groups, number of children, employment status, and educational attainment had the same level of knowledge in caring for pre-term infants but respondents with monthly income of more than P 10,000 had higher level of knowledge in caring for pre-term infants than those whose monthly income is less than P 10,000.Findings revealed that the respondents with different number of children, monthly income, employment status, and educational attainment have the same level of ability in caring for pre-term infants but respondents who were 20 years old and below had a higher level of ability in caring for pre-term infants. The finding also revealed that level of knowledge of mothers in taking care of preterm infants is a predictor oftheir level of ability in taking care of preterm infants. This finding means that as the level of knowledge increases, the level of ability also increases.
