This research study, entitled "Production of Ethyl Alcohol from Pungapung (Amorphophalhts campanulatus) Corm ", dealt with the production of ethyl alcohol from the fermented extract of pungapung corm. It was conducted to determine the physical and chemical properties of the produced ethyl alcohol and to compare it with the commercial ethyl alcohol. Pungapung corms were cleaned and boiled for 20 minutes to facilitate extraction. The extract was fermented for six weeks, racked, and filtered. After these processes, the fermented extract was distilled up to the boiling temperature of the solution and the percent yield was calculated as 7.89 percent. The physical and chemical properties of the alcohol extract were determined in terms of clarity, odor, boiling point, specific gravity, flammability, and reaction of the alcohol to iodoform test, respectively. The alcohol extract from pungapung corm is clear and had an alcohol-like smell_ The boiling point of the produced alcohol is 78°C and its specific gravity is 0.90. These were determined using the formula in calculating the specific gravity. Flammability test showed that the sample is flammable, which further indicates that the substance is specifically an ethyl alcohol. Based on the results of the study, pungapung corm can be utilized in the production of ethyl alcohol and it is also an acceptable alternative ethyl alcohol source.
