Abstract: EJANDRA, MICHAEL A. Socio-economic Activities and Income of Senior Citizens in Lowland Towns of Cavite. Bachelor of Science in Economics Major in Business-Economics. Cavite State University Don Severino Delas Alas Campus. April 2013. Thesis Adviser: Jenny Beb F. Ebo. This study was conducted to determine the socio-economic activities and income of senior citizens in lowland towns of Cavite. Furthermore, it aimed to: (1) determine the socio-economic characteristics of senior citizens in lowland towns of Cavite; (2) identify the socio-economic activities of senior citizens in lowland towns of Cavite; (3) determine the amount and sources of income of senior citizens in lowland towns of Cavite; (4) determine the significant relationship between the socio-economic characteristics and socio-economic activities; (5) determine the significant relationship between socio-economic characteristics and income of senior citizens in lowland towns of Cavite and (6) identify the common problems encountered by senior citizens in lowland towns of Cavite. This study was conducted from November 2012 to January 2013. All the lowland towns of Cavite namely; General Trias, Tanza, Kawit, Noveleta, Cavite city, Rosario, Imus and Bacoor were included in the study with a total of 111,279 senior citizens. Using this slovin formula, 399 became the target samples of the study. A total of 399 participants of senior citizens were divided; 172 from Bacoor, 21 from Tanza, 48 from General Trias, 44 from Cavite City, 48 from Imus, 26 from Kawit, 25 from Rosario and 15 from Noveleta. The researcher used descriptive Statistical tools in analyzing the data that were gathered. The chi-square test was employed to determine or to analyze the relationship between the socio-economic activities and income of senior citizens in lowland towns of Cavite. The age of the respondents ranged from 60 to 91 with an average mean of 68 years old. Most of them reached elementary graduate with an estimated initial amount of income of Php 500 to Php 216,000. Out of the 399 participants, 167 were males and 232 females with 58 reported they as married. The socio-economic activities of senior citizens include employment, investment and entrepreneurial activities. The employment status showed that they were employed in private company/corporation with the highest proportion in types of employment. Then, nature of works which were services got the highest percentage having fifty one percent. Nearly, most of the respondents were permanent, which has sixty four percent. For the investment, out of 399 participants, only 140 had engaged to investment. They were in business, real estate and lending to someone with interest with the net income ranging from Php1000 to Php75,000. Then, the entrepreneurial foods and beverages and transport has the most efficient amount engaging in a business with the net income of Php 1000 to Php25,000. The result of chi-square test showed that socio-economic characteristics such as age, sex , civil status and educational attainment were not found significant related to income of the respondents
