Abstract: VIDALLO, MARK DARREN P. and VIDALLON, KIMBERLY S. Economic Contribution to the Family Income of the Recipients of Tilapia and Bangus Fingerlings Dispersal Program of the Department of Agriculture in the Province of Cavite. Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Science in Economics major in Agricultural Economics. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. April 2016. Adviser. Dr. Elizabeth E. Polinga The study was conducted to analyze the economic contribution to the family income of the recipients of Tilapia and Bangus Fingerlings Dispersal Program of the Department of Agriculture in the province of Cavite with the following specific objectives: (1) identify the socio-demographic profile of the recipients in Cavite; (2) determine the current standard of living of the recipients of the program; (3) establish the perceived effect of the program to the family income of the recipients; (4) determine the relationship of the recipient's level of income to their educational attainment, seminars attended, and years of dealing with the fish industry; (5) determine the percentage contribution of Tilapia and Bangus Fingerlings Dispersal Program to the income of the recipient; and (6) enumerate the problems encountered by the recipients after acquiring the fingerlings from the program. Total enumeration was used to gather information on the tilapia and bangus fingerlings recipients from Cavite. One-hundred seventy-three recipients were considered. Data were collected through the use of survey questionnaire and personal interview. The age of the recipients ranged from 22 to 86 years old with an average of 45 years. Majority of the recipients were married and were supporting an average of 5 dependents. Most of them had 5 to 6 household members and were high school graduates. Fifty-five percent of the recipients were in the industry for 1 to 7 years. Forty-five percent were low level income earners and 77 percent were living in a single —storey house. In terms of the level of living according to appliances owned, 68 percent of the recipients were on the average level of living. The perceived effects of the program to the family income of the recipients were food sufficiency, pastime or relaxation, and for business purposes. The results of the study revealed that the educational attainment, seminars attended; and the number of years with the fishing industry had no significant effect to the recipient's level of income. Result of the study revealed that only 16 percent of the recipients considered this program of the Department of Agriculture as another source of income but all of the recipients said that they secure food-sufficiency from the program. Tilapia and bangus production are not the primary occupation nor the major source of income of most of the recipients. However, tilapia and bangus production and marketing could contribute significantly to food sufficiency, to the livelihood of the recipients, and to the supply and dispersal of fingerlings to inland waters in the province of Cavite. The program had no direct effect to the standard of living of the recipients since most of them did not use it for livelihood. The major problem encountered by the recipients in raising of tilapia and bangus after acquiring the fingerlings was the predators that invade their ponds.
