A study was conducted at Cavite State University in Indang, Cavite to determine the study habits and training habits of CvSU varsity athletes in Indang, Cavite. Specifically, the study described the demographic profile of varsity athletes; determined their study habits and training habits, ascertained the relationship between the study habits and training habits, and ascertained the relationship of demographic profile to the study habits and training habits of CvSU varsity athletes.
The participants were 109 CvSU varsity athletes. A survey questionnaire was used to gather the needed data. Descriptive statistical tools were used to answer the problems posed in this study.
Results showed that more than half of the participants (- %) were 19 to 20 years old and were male varsity players. Less than half of them were (- %) third year college Students and participated in non-ball game events. They had varied years of playing experiences as varsity athletes of CvSU.
It was evident from the study that CvSU varsity athletes were highly devoted to their studies and training practices. This was supported by high mean scores obtained from their study habits and training habits.
In terms of study habits, participants recorded an overall “high” level of study habits. Similarly, an overall “high” level of training habits was also found among them. This means that they were devoted both to their studies and to their training as athletes. Test statistics show that a significant relationship existed between the study habits and training habits of the participants. It appears that there was a direct relationship between study habits and training habits.
In terms of the relationship between study habits and training habits, evidence indicates that CvSU varsity athletes who were highly devoted to their studies were also highly devoted to their training practice, and vice versa. This means that varsity athletes who were committed to their studies were also committed to their training practices.
