Pantihan 4, Maragondon, Cavite: An Entrepreneurial Development Project Bachelor in Agricultural Entrepreneurship major in Animal Production, CAFENR, Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite.Adviser: Irvin dL. Matel, DVM, MSc. This backyard hog production project was conducted at Brgy. Pub ni Sara, Pantihan 4, Maragondon, Cavite from January 31, 2018 to May 15, 2018. The project aimed to obtain profit from backyard hog raising; acquire hands on experience in backyard hog raising; and apply swine raising skills and gain additional knowledge in backyard hog production. The pen was prepared by cleaning and disinfection two weeks before the start of the project. The project used four weanlings with an average initial weight of 15.25 kg. The four piglets were purchased from a backyard farm at Brgy. Batas, Bailen, Cavite. They were fed three times a day at about 7.00am, 12.00pm and 5.00 pm. They were given hog starter pellet during the first month. After this, hog grower pellet was provided until market stage. Changing of feed type was done gradually to avoid stress. The weanlings were dewormed on the 34th day of production. The hogs were bathed daily between 7-9 am and 1-2 pm. The four hogs attained an average gain in weight of 74.75 kg with a total gain in weight of 360 kg. The average daily gain of the hogs was 711.90 kg and the average feed conversion efficiency was 2.84. During the marketing period, the four hogs were sold on a live weight basis at the price of P126.00 per kg. The hogs attained an average final weight of 90 kg.
