Abstract: BAGAY, NOEL EROLES, "Gender-Based Analysis of Productive Activities in Pineapple Farming Systems", B.S. Thesis, Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite, April 1999: Dr. Marietta C. Mojica. Specifically, this study aimed to: 1) describe the characteristics of pineapple growers with regard on their farm; 2) identify the gender role differentiation in productive activities; 3) describe their access and control over resources and benefits; and 4) identify the problems encountered in the performance of productive activities in pineapple farming. This study covered two selected municipalities of Cavite namely: Silang and Tagaytay. There were 101 respondents consisting of 53 pineapple growers from three barangays of Silang and 43 pineapple growers from three barangays Tagaytay City. Most of the pineapple growers had farm located within their barangay. More than half of them were owner-operator. The average size of the farm was 1.53 hectares. Respondents had average farming experience of 24.47 years. Specifically for pineapple growing, they had an average experience of 18.23 years. It was learned that adult males performed most of the activities in pineapple farming. Also, the access and control over farm resources were found to be dominated by male household members. The different problems encountered in the performance of productive activities in pineapple farming were poor weather conditions, low production, lack of capital, prevalence of pest and diseases and poor quality of produced seasoned harvest.
