Abstract: PINGOL, JENNIE ROSE and ZAMORA, JESARIE JOY MOJICA. Personal Characteristics, affiliation and Candidate Preferences of the Electorate in Alfonso, Cavite during Local Election. Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. Cavite State University. April 2015. Adviser: Mr. Renato T. Agdalpen. This study entitled "Personal Characteristics, Affiliation and Candidate Preferences of the Electorate in Alfonso, Cavite during Local Election" aimed to find out the relationship between personal characteristics and affiliation and candidate preferences of the electorate during local election. Specifically, the study sought to: (1) identify the personal characteristics and affiliation of the respondents; (2) identify the candidate preferences of the electorate in Alfonso, Cavite in times of local election; and (3) determine the significant relationship between personal characteristics and affiliation and candidate preferences of the electorate during local election. Survey questionnaire was administered to 166 respondents to find out the relationship between personal characteristics and affiliation and candidate preferences of the electorate during local election. The data gathered from October 2014 to January 2015 were tabulated, analyzed, and evaluated. Chi-square was used to determine the relationship between personal characteristics and affiliation and candidate preferences of the electorate during local election. Purposive sampling was used in selecting the respondents. The questionnaire was composed of two parts: Part 1 (personal characteristics and affiliation of the respondents) and Part 2 (candidate preferences of the electorate). Findings of the study revealed that majority of the respondents who answered were of ages 21-30, female, Roman Catholic and unemployed. What the respondents prefer most are the candidates having a good leadership background, educational background, candidates' family name, political party affiliation, benefits offer, family relationship, family prestige, popularity, candidate who are media practitioners and the personality of the candidate. The results also revealed that there is a significant relationship between age of the electorate to their preferred candidates in terms of family name, religion of the electorate to candidate's popularity, occupation of the respondents to candidate who are media practitioner, based on family name and political affiliation, and political party affiliation of the electorate to candidate who is educated, politically affiliated and has a family connection.
