The study entitled "Management Program on Safety and Health of Selected Construction Companies Owned by the Chinese in the Philippines" was conducted determine the extent of the implementation of the safety and health management practice of selected construction companies owned by Chinese in the Philippines. Specifically, the study was conducted to: 1) determine the socio-demographic profile of the respondents; 2) determine the status of the implementation of the safety and health programs of selected Chinese construction companies in the Philippines With regard to the following management areas: a) setting and communicating clear goals and objectives; b) being visibly involved in employee safety; c) assuring employee involvement in safety and health problem identification and resolution; d) clearly assigning responsibility for safety; e) giving adequate authority and assuring efficient use of resources; f) assuring quality safety and health management programs; and g) implementing effective safety and health training and prevention and control of hazards; 3) determine significant is the difference in the perceived status and implementation of the safety and health programs of selected construction companies as evaluated by the top, middle, and lower level of management, 4) determine the effectiveness of the prevailing safety and health management practices pursued by these selected and leading construction companies as prescribed by the Labor and Employment Bureau and the Bureau of Working Conditions (BWC) With respect to the following guidelines: a) Personal Protective Equipment; b) Safety Personnel; c) Emergency Occupational Health Personnel and Facilities; d) Construction Safety Signage; e) Safety and Construction Heavy Equipment; f) Construction Safety and Health Committee; g) Safety and Health Information; h) Construction Safety and Health Training; i) Construction Safety and Health Reports; j) Construction Worker's Skills Certification; k) Worker's Welfare Facilities; l) Cost of Construction Safety and health Program; and m) Violation and Penalties; and 5) determine the significant difference in the assessments of the groups responds as regards the effectiveness of the safety and health management practices pursued. This study is descriptive in nature. It made use of three (3) groups of respondents; 32 top level executives; 70 middle managers; and 449 employees and workers representing the lower level management. They were chosen using a combination of convenience-purposive sampling procedure. To gather the data, survey questionnaire were designed and developed. The first set gathered information on the demographic profile of the individual respondents; while the second set, composed to two (2) sub-areas was used to generate data on the extent of the implementation of the safety and health management programs and the effectiveness of the safety and health management practices. It is now widely accepted that safety and health management is indomitable in the process of promoting the physical and well-being of employees/workers and in improving their working condition not to discount the continuing changes both in labor legislation and corporate policies. The government for its rules and standards on safety and health implementation of the rules and standards on safety and health management, but also in promoting awareness of public and concern as well as resolve common problems so it can advance common interest between labor sector and management.
