Abstract: RODRIN, ARIEL JAZON P. and LISNIANA, KIM DIONELLE H.. Factors Affecting the Performance of BS Psychology Students of Cavite State University — Main in Their Qualifying Examination. Undergaduate Thesis. Bachelor of Science in Applied Mathematics with specialization in Statistics. Cavite State University — Main Campus, Indang, Cavite. May 2017 Adviser: Mr. Antonio V. Cinto. This study was conducted to detennine the factors affecting the performance in qualifying examination of the CvSU — Main BS Psychology students through logistic regression and discriminant analysis. Specifically, the study was conducted under the following objectives: (l) determine the relationship between outcome and explanatory variables; (2) formulate mathematical models through logistic and discriminant analysis; (3) determine the predictive powers of the models; and (4) select the best and appropriate model that could be used in real life situation. The researchers determined that the factors affecting the BS Psychology qualifying examination are their knowledge in Development Psychology (xs), Theory of Personality (xo, Cognitive and Learning Psychology (x7), and Abnormal Psychology (xo. The researcher used point biserial and phi coeffcient to determine possible predictors included in the model building and to test the relationship of the outcome and explanatory variable. As the predictors were determined, logistic and discriminant model was formulated. Unlike logistic, discriminant has three assumptions that must be satisfied, namely: measurement, normality and homogeneity of variance-covariance mafrices. The models formulated by the researcher are: Logistic Model = 50.576 - 6.979% - 5.734% - 7.133% - 3.087x7 Discriminant Model D 49.196 + 15.592XiS + 7.169Xi6 + 6.352Xi7 + 11.273Xi8 D 28.528 + 10.838XiS + 5.620Xi6 + 5.034Xi7 + 9.225Xi8 After the creation of model, the researchers compared the formulated model using simple classification. Logistic model has lesser misclassification but using simple classification is not enough has to be proven scientifically, using B and Q index. As a result, logistic model has better prediction, The authors recommend to use logistic regression against discriminant analysis in finding the factors affecting the qualifying examinations for it has lesser error in prediction. As a result on the logistic regression, the researchers highly recommend for the future takers of BS Psychology qualifying examination to focus on four major subjects which are Development Psychology (x5), Theory of Personality (xo, Cognitive and Learning Psychology (x7) and Abnormal Psychology (x).

This study was conducted to detennine the factors affecting the performance in qualifying examination of the CvSU — Main BS Psychology students through logistic regression and discriminant analysis. Specifically, the study was conducted under the following objectives: (l) determine the relationship between outcome and explanatory variables; (2) formulate mathematical models through logistic and discriminant analysis;
(3) determine the predictive powers of the models; and (4) select the best and appropriate model that could be used in real life situation.
The models formulated by the researcher are:
Logistic Model
= 50.576 - 6.979% - 5.734% - 7.133% - 3.087x7
Discriminant Model
D 49.196 + 15.592XiS + 7.169Xi6 + 6.352Xi7 + 11.273Xi8
D 28.528 + 10.838XiS + 5.620Xi6 + 5.034Xi7 + 9.225Xi8
After the creation of model, the researchers compared the formulated model using simple classification. Logistic model has lesser misclassification but using simple classification is not enough has to be proven scientifically, using B and Q index. As a result, logistic model has better prediction,
The authors recommend to use logistic regression against discriminant analysis in finding the factors affecting the qualifying examinations for it has lesser error in prediction.
