Abstract: DAVID, CHEZCA P., PAEZ, GIA CLARE V. and SARANILLO, MAE G. Personality traits, Struggles in Priesthood and Commitment of Priests in the Diocese of Imus. Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Science in Psychology. Cavite State University Indang, Cavite. April 2017. Thesis Adviser: Ms. Mary Jane A. Amparo. This study aimed to: (I) determine the level of personality traits of priests in the Diocese of Imus according to its dimension’s openness, conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness, and neuroticism. (2) determine what are the struggles in priesthood in terms of economic limitation, leadership-related problems, and relational problems; (3) determine what is the commitment of priests in the Diocese of Imus in terms of affective commitment, continuance commitment and normative commitment; (4) determine the significant relationship between personality traits and commitment of priests; (5) determine the significant relationship between personality traits and struggles in priesthood; and (6) determine the significant relationship between struggles in priesthood and their commitment of the participants. This study used descriptive-correlational method to describe and relate the variables with each other. The participants of this study were priests in the Diocese of Imus.This study revealed that most of the priests in the Diocese of Imus have high level of openness, conscientiousness, agreeableness, extraversion, and neuroticism. It means that priests in the Diocese of Imus have a deep appreciation for art and beauty and were emotionally moved by them, they are ambitious and have purposefulness to their actions. Most of the priests are dominant, upbeat, energetic, and assertive but they have attitudes of sympathy and concern for others and has higher tolerance for frustration, they are also confident and optimistic. All priests in the Diocese of Imus experience lack of funds to sustain the parish/church needs in fulfilling its daily functions and activities/projects committed. They are emotionally attached to their priesthood, and they enjoy their priesthood because they want to stay in their vocation. The results also showed that their personality traits do not depend on the type of commitment they have, commitment do not depend on the personality traits possessed by the priests. Furthermore, the personality traits specifically extraversion is related to their leadership-related problems. It means their leadership-related problems can be resolved or improved by their level of extraversion. Being extroverts, they may experience leadership- related problems, that sometimes their being friendly and assertive possibly creates misunderstanding however, priests tried to managed this to minimize struggles encountered. Their commitment is really the calling of holiness and faithfulness to surrender themselves to God.
